Elizabeth Addie | Relationship and Family Psychologist

My passion is to help people create positive, hopeful, happy lives.

I am a psychologist and relationship counsellor. Before establishing my psychology private practice eight years ago, I worked for 16 years as a counsellor in S.E. Queensland with schools, TAFE and Relationships Australia.

I work with both individuals and couples integrating my many years of practical experience with psychological knowledge and evidence based treatments to assist you to make the positive changes you would like to create in your life.

I help:

Couples helping them to manage the inevitable problems which come from being part of an intimate caring relationship, to focus on their goals of happiness, growth and caring for each other and to learn new skills to meet life's challenges.

Individuals to improve wellbeing and address mental health issues. To overcome long standing limiting behaviour patterns and unhelpful habits of thinking.

I have a commitment to lifelong learning and am constantly studying and undertaking professional development to improve my skills and knowledge. My qualifications are:

Should we see a counsellor?

Evidence Based Psychological Strategies: I utilise Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness and Relaxation practices. In consultation with you, I utilise the approach which will work best with your situation and needs.

CBT works to help you understand and manage your behaviours, thoughts and feelings to reduce symptoms such as those from depression or anxiety and improve your quality of life.

Schema Therapy takes this process one step further assisting you to going into further depth to understand factors which have predisposed you to be vulnerable to mental health or relationship problems. And to then address these more embedded patterns of limiting behaviour and negative thoughts.

Relationship Counselling: I specialise in the Gottman Method for Healthy Relationships. I have completed Gottman Marital Therapy Levels 1,2 & 3 Professional Training.

Bariatric Surgery Reports: I provide reports for your specialist for people seeking bariatric surgery. You will need to complete some brief questionnaires before your session, so I can obtain the information required by your surgeon.
